LED TECHNOLOGY

What is an L.E.D.?
An LED or Light Emitting Diode contains a chemical compound that gives off light when an electrical current passes through it. Unlike a light bulb, there are no filaments or breakable parts that will ever need to be replaced. The LEDs that AD Systems uses have a life expectancy of 11.4 years.

When considering an LED display make sure you know the brightness of each LED. We recommend LEDs with a brightness rating of at least 5,000 NITS. Many LED companies offer products with a brightness rating of 2,000 or less. This results in a dim sign that will continue to "dim down" over a 3-5 year period.

 LED
Alight-emitting diode(LED) is a semiconductor device that emits visible light when current passes through it.

What is a pixel?
A pixel is a point of light on an LED sign. An LED sign is made up of an array of pixels (or points of light appearing as dots). A pixel can be as small as one LED or it make contain a cluster of LEDs (2, 3, 4, 6, etc.) that make up one pixel. The closer the pixels are together the higher the resolution of the image

PIXEL
Apixel is the smallest individual component of an image, graphic or display. A pixel can be one single LED or a pixel can consist of a cluster of LEDS running off the same circuit.

PITCH
Pitch is defined as the distance between pixels and is usually defined in terms of millimeters. The smaller the distance between pixels, the higher the resolution and the sharper the image. Pitch is always measured from the center of one pixel to the center of another pixel. certain pitches are better for certain distances.

RESOLUTION
Resolution is the overall number of pixels in a display, usually defined in terms of vertical and horizontal components. The higher the resolution, the better the picture quality.

Low Resolution Example, if you were traveling on a freeway at 65 MPH, viewing a gas station sign 540 feet away the text would need to be at least 9 inches tall to be legible, you will only need a low resolution because of the speed and distance from which it is being viewed.

High Resolution Example, if you were standing at street level, viewing a school sign 120 feet away, the text would need to be 2 inches tall to be legible. You would want a higher resolution because it will be viewed from a stationary and shorter distance.

Standard Definition
Displays offer 1.375" on-center spacing between each pixel producing a brighter image and larger text size that can be seen from long distances. If you will primarily run text and basic animations on your display, we recommend standard definition.

High Definition
Displays offer .7" on-center spacing between each pixel producing a crisp clean resolution. It also provides more text options for message size. If you will run text, video and detailed animations on your display, we recommend high definition.

Viewing angle
Is extremely important. You have probably noticed LED signs on the highway that you can read from a distance, but as you get closer to the sign, the message disappears. AD Systems offers a 140 degree viewing cone which allows the LED to be read from the side as well as from the front. Viewing angle directly effects how long your audience can read your messages.

LED Light Box
Wall Mounting Instructions

001.jpg
1 - Determine if you are hanging your LED light box vertically or horizontally. The above illustration shows the approximate locations for installing your hanging clips.

002.jpg
2 - Insert the supplied hanging clip into the groove on the top rear of the frame at approximately a 45˚ angle.

003.jpg
3 - Using your thumb apply pressure to the upper portion of the clip snapping it into the channel.

004.jpg
4 - Slide hanging clip to the desired location (See 1) then insert and tighten locking screw using a Phillips head screwdriver. Repeat steps 2 thru 4 for second clip.

005.jpg
5 - Drill a 3/8” hole at location of each clip in the desired mounting wall (use of a construction level is recommended). Insert the provided wall anchors into the holes then using a Phillips head screw driver insert the screws leaving approximately 1/4” exposed.

6 - Mount frame by simply placing the hanging clip on the screw heads. Hanging clip position can be adjusted by loosening locking screw. (See 4)
